CERAMICS FACTORY STARTS OPERATIONS
Safira Mozambique Cerâmica Limitada has invested approximately US$100 million in a terrazzo/ceramics factory in Moamba district’s free economic zone, in Maputo province.
The industrial unit, with a capacity to produce 100,000 square meters of terrazzo and ceramic tiles per day, was built over an area of 90,000 square meters, making it the largest such factory in the SADC region.
The ceramics plant uses natural gas throughout its process to heat and bake the ceramic tiles. There is also a 12MW onsite power generation facility. This facility allowed the ceramics plant to be completely off-grid. Its total energy supply comes from natural gas.
Matola Gas Company (MGC) concluded a Gas Supply Agreement with Safira and has started its supply in December 2023.
